DeliverableWritten report with photos

A report you can actually use.

An inspection should answer a specific question with evidence: is mold present, where, how much, and what should be done. We treat it as a diagnostic exercise, not a sales call. The deliverable is a written document with photographs, moisture data, lab results, and clear recommendations.

Greensboro’s housing stock is wonderfully varied — mid-century ranches in Sunset Hills, mill-village cottages near downtown, 1980s neighborhoods around Friendly, dense newer builds along the western corridor. Each behaves differently with respect to moisture, and the inspection method has to follow the building.

Inspection pricing stands on its own. We do not bundle it with remediation, because doing so compromises the integrity of the report.

Why it matters

What goes wrong when the diagnostic gets skipped.

Three failure modes we see consistently across Greensboro and the broader Triad.

01

Mid-century walls hide a lot.

Greensboro’s mid-century housing stock combines lath-and-plaster walls, original ductwork, and decades of small leaks. Visible patches are almost always smaller than the actual contamination footprint behind the finish.

02

Insurance carriers want documentation.

Without an AIHA-lab-backed report, claim files for water-related mold losses tend to stall, get denied, or settle low. Documented findings carry far more weight than a contractor’s estimate alone.

03

DIY remediation without a scope.

Cleaning visible growth without a defined scope misses cavity contamination, HVAC involvement, and the moisture source. Within a year, the colony is back — sometimes worse, and now without a clean baseline.

Our approach

Walkthrough to defensible report.

Samples are pulled where they answer the question, not to fill out an invoice. We tell you in plain language what the numbers mean.

  1. 01

    Walkthrough

We start with a structured walkthrough of every accessible level — attic, basement, crawl, finished space — logging photographs and observations before any sampling decisions.

  2. 02

    Moisture mapping

Calibrated meters and thermal imaging identify elevated moisture in walls, ceilings, and subfloors. In Greensboro’s mixed-era housing, moisture mapping is where most of the real findings surface.

  3. 03

    Sampling

Tape lifts, swabs, and spore-trap air samples are pulled where they will answer the question on the table — always with a same-day outdoor control for any indoor-air comparison.

  4. 04

    Lab analysis & report

Samples ship to an AIHA-LAP accredited laboratory. You receive a written report with photographs, moisture readings, lab results, and clear recommendations.

What our clients say about our mold inspection services.

Real reviews from homeowners and contractors across North Carolina.

★★★★★
We bought a new to us 1964 home last December and to no surprise, we had asbestos popcorn ceilings. We decided to remove the ceilings altogether versus just scraping them. To complicate things even more, we had a plumbing leak in a room that had previously been encapsulated, so we had to deal with insurance to cover a portion of the asbestos removal. Rusty and the whole team at Remtech were such a help from the first moment we spoke! They were responsive, flexible, and knowledgeable. They helped us get insurance what they needed. They even worked with us to do the removal work while we had to be out of town. Asbestos removal and dealing with insurance, especially as we were brand new to the home, was incredibly stressful. Working with Remtech was the opposite – they were helpful and easy to work with that I barely had to think about the work being done. It was a nice break for my brain! They also did a great job. We came home to a CLEAN house with no ceilings! While I’m hoping we never have to go through such a big project again, I know we’d be able to handle it because we can rely on Remtech.

Very fast, professional and responsive. Did floor asbestos abatement for our house for a very reasonable price and they were very quick to schedule to keep us within our very close timeline.

As a General Contractor specializing in Bathroom & Kitchen remodel, we complete in excess of 250 bathroom upgrades each year. Regardless of our remodeling and construction experience and capabilities, when it comes to addressing the unforeseen hazardous and environmental conditions posed by mold, asbestos, and lead paints, we have a responsibility to our customers to partner with the best abatement specialist possible, and as proficient in abatement as we are kitchen and bath remodeling. Remtech has proven to be that reliable and trusted partner for both our customers and company. We highly recommend the Remtech Team.

A few months ago I used Remtech Envir. to remove asbestos from the ceiling of my home, and to this day I’m still amazed with their service that I’ve been meaning to write a review, and today’s the day! The whole process went through so smoothly because of their professionalism, punctuality and care. At the end of each day I received an update from Rusty who was the project manager which was super helpful, and because of their expertise I knew the job was getting done correctly. There was a lot of asbestos to remove, and they showed up and delivered hard work to get it done within the time frame that was initially discussed. So grateful we used their services! I would highly recommend!

Our church basement flooded and the old asbestos tiles curled up and had to be removed. Jeff Brewer came over to look at our problem, explained what they would do. He furnished a quote very quickly with a fair price. After checking with two other companies, Jeff’s instructive conversation, ease of manner, willingness to help and a fair price won him the work. As a former contractor, I know how backed up companies can be in their schedule. He told us of a target time about 4-6 weeks off, which was fine. He called a couple of weeks later and had an opening in his schedule and wanted to come earlier. That was great. Their staff arrived on time and delivered a very quick, professional and clean project. This allowed us to get our Fellowship Hall floored and back in operating condition prior to the start of the school year. It is a pleasure to work with a company that communicates well and delivers their service in a superior way.

Remtech came in and did a removal of asbestos when our home developed a leak and the sheetrock ceiling had to be removed. Got right to work, kept us informed every step of the way and did a great job of cleaning up. Would use them again in a heart beat!!

The cost was higher than expected, so I did not move forward at that time. I will use Remtech when I am ready to have the work done. They are very professional and take the time to answer any questions. The rep arrived on time, explained the process and provided the estimate. A very positive experience.

Frequently asked

Questions, answered honestly.

After two decades of Triad inspections, the same five questions come up. Quick versions below — the longer ones happen on the phone.

If I can already see mold, why do I still need an inspection?

Visible mold confirms a problem; it doesn’t tell you the extent. An inspection determines whether the visible patch is the entire issue or whether spores have spread to HVAC ductwork, wall cavities, or adjacent rooms. It also identifies the species, which affects the remediation protocol, and quantifies airborne concentrations — the data points that drive whether occupants should relocate during the work.

What does a mold inspection in Greensboro typically cost?

Cost varies with scope. A focused single-room inspection with one indoor sample plus an outdoor control sits at the lower end. A whole-home inspection covering attic, crawl, multiple living areas, and HVAC with multiple samples is higher. AIHA-accredited lab analysis is a meaningful share of the total because labs charge per sample. We quote in writing before any field work begins.

How long does an inspection take and when do I get the report?

Field work for most Greensboro homes runs two to four hours, with larger whole-home inspections sometimes extending to half a day. Visual findings, moisture readings, and thermal images are immediate. Lab results from AIHA-LAP accredited facilities typically return in three to five business days, and the full written report is delivered within one to three business days of receiving the data.

When do I need air sampling versus surface sampling?

Surface sampling — tape lifts and swabs — confirms what a visible patch actually is. Air sampling tells you whether spores are elevated in the breathing space and whether there’s a hidden source. For health-driven inspections, post-water-event inspections, and real-estate transactions, air sampling with an outdoor control is generally the more useful test.

Do you also remediate the mold you find?

Yes — but inspection is priced and scoped on its own merits. We deliberately keep the diagnostic and remediation scopes separate, write the report with only the diagnostic question in mind, and tell clients clearly that any qualified remediation contractor can act on our findings. For post-remediation clearance, we recommend an independent third-party verifier in every case.
